Preserving Heber’s Past, Inspiring Its Future

Honoring the past through storytelling, preservation, and community collaboration to keep Heber’s history alive for future generations.

This year, the Community Alliance for Main Street (CAMS) is proud to celebrate meaningful progress in historic preservation, honoring the stories, buildings, and character that make downtown Heber unique. Through partnerships, creative programming, and community engagement, CAMS is working to ensure that Heber’s history remains a living part of its future.

Among the key accomplishments this year, CAMS created a 37-site self-guided walking tour in partnership with the Heber Leadership Academy, showcasing historic homes and buildings in downtown Heber, allowing residents and visitors to experience the community’s past at their own pace. The organization also curated the “Heber City 100 Years (1925–2025)” photo exhibition, highlighting a century of local stories and community pride with amazing volunteers and in cooperation with the Wasatch County Library. In partnership with the Heber City Preservation Commission, CAMS secured a Certified Local Government (CLG) Grant through the Utah State Historic Preservation Office, which will fund a reconnaissance-level survey in 2026 to document and protect historic structures.

CAMS also led several historic home tours for the Senior Citizens Group, launched a social media campaign that spotlighted downtown landmarks and local history, and helped promote the city’s historic art installation, which received one of the most positive community engagement responses of the year on Facebook. In addition, CAMS introduced the Historic Heber Ghost Tour, blending historical storytelling with a creative, seasonal twist to bring new audiences downtown.

Every plaque, tour, and story contributes to preserving Heber’s heritage for future generations. This work reflects a shared community commitment to honoring the past while building a vibrant future. CAMS extends its gratitude to the many volunteers, partners, and supporters who helped make this year’s preservation efforts possible.
